A Day of Worship and Rest (and More Rain)

"Sleeping in": We were supposed to sleep in today.  On Sunday, our worship was to begin at 11:00 am.  So, we set a wake up time at 9:00.  However, the neighboring roosters had a different idea.  In the surrounding farms, roosters started crowing before 5:00.  It was still dark.  What rooster crows when it's still dark?

After eating breakfast and dressing for church (and doing dishes in our Sunday best, see picture),  we headed off to church.  The service actually began at 11:20 (the people here are on Mexico time) and lasted until about 1:20 pm.  All in Spanish.  Our group sang two numbers in English for the church.

Rainy Siesta.  We then returned to the church and had lunch.  The church ladies made some excellent food for us.  Then it was time for a siesta before supper.  As we settled in for a nice Sunday nap, the rain started to fall.  Since nothing could be as torrential as Saturday, we thought nothing of it.  Then it started coming down harder and harder and soon we were back at flood stage!  We were mopping and bailing to keep water from coming into the church.  We actually had to build a dam in shin-deep water to keep water from pouring through a doorway into our courtyard.

More Worship: The rains eventually died down and we made it to supper and to worship at 7:00.  Evangelist Tim (as they called him) had his sermon ready.  Our group sang again and Tim preached a great sermon -- translated by John Wind -- complete with an altar call.

The service lasted 3 hours.

A bit sick: We got back to the church and found out a few of our members are sick.  Pray for Christine, Mark, and Pastor Tim as they are ill.
